Currently under construction, the Deschutes River House, sited on the edge of a unique river canyon, explores relationships of concealment and exposure via an angled plan that creates an outdoor courtyard amidst a mix of juniper and ponderosa pines. A double height painting studio and open living space with views to the river and mountains flank a central vertical library ‘hinge’ that serves as an entry and gathering area to welcome friends and family home after a day of winter skiing or summer kayaking. Skylights are specifically placed to create inhabitable volumes of light as our clients move through different areas of the home.
